Description | This series comprises manuscript volumes of notes made at lectures by St Bartholomew's Hospital surgeons and physicians by, mostly, unknown students.
Most volumes pre-date the formal establishment of St Bartholomew's Hospital medical school in 1842. Prior to this date, surgeons and physicians at the hospital gave lectures, often at their own homes or offices off-site, which were paid for per lecture on a ticketed basis, and took on pupils or apprentices, who would 'walk the wards' for the practical side of their training. |
