Administrative history | The Radiation Safety group of medical physicists, based in Dominion House, developed out of the Radiation Physics Department, and covered all aspects of radiation protection for staff and patients in the City and Hackney District, and latterly the hospital trusts. Their work was overseen by the Radiological Protection Sub- (later Advisory) Committee, which issued local safety rules to be followed by staff. Following the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), there was a greater awareness of radiation hazards in hospitals, and the need for protection. Legal requirements for a greater level of protection were introduced by the introduction in 1986 of the Ionising Radiations Regulations. |
