| Description | These volumes record name, age and previous occupation of the Probationer, date of appointment, where placed, and Matron's remarks.
The dates given are normally those of the earliest and latest appointments in each volume. However, the entries are not all in chronological order; in particular, it was the practice in RLHLH/N/1/12 - 28, to place at the end of each volume entries for "Paying Probationers" who had been appointed before the starting date of that volume (in some cases up to 10 years before).
Some non-paying Probationers begin training many years before they complete it and so appear in later volumes rather than earlier ones because Matron's reports are written upon completion of their training.
